The Stork’s Nest Prenatal Program

The Stork’s Nest is an incentive- based, prenatal health promotion program for low- income pregnant women. A partnership of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the March of Dimes, Stork’s Nest encourages women to make and keep prenatal care appointments and participate in prenatal education classes. Getting early and regular prenatal care and learning about healthy pregnancy choices are significant contributor to helping women have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies The first Stork’s Nest was established in Atlanta in 1971. Today, there are more than 100 Stork’s Nests across the country, serving thousands of women each year. In June of 2010, a Stork’s Nest was opened at Union Community Health Center and has been thriving ever since, serving expectant moms of the Bronx and lower Westchester.
Stork’s Nest clients earn incentive points by keeping prenatal care appointments, attending Stork’s Nest prenatal education sessions and participating in other activities that promote healthy pregnancy behaviors. Some activities, like getting prenatal care, are worth more points as they are the most important in a woman’s pregnancy. Clients use these incentive points to “buy” maternity and baby items- clothes, diapers, car seats- from the Stork’s Nest.
We know that women who actively participate in prenatal care have healthier pregnancies and healthier babies than women who don’t. Working together, providers, community- based organizations and Stork’s Nest can help promote prenatal care and healthy behaviors to help women have stronger, healthier babies.

Your support- your referrals, your dollars, your donated maternity or baby care items– immediately impacts the lives of moms and babies in your community. Stork’s Nest can truly make a difference in a woman’s pregnancy health, as well as in her daily life:
