Bronx Stork’s Nest

borderThe Kappa Epsilon Zeta Stork’s Nest
In keeping with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.’s well-known national partnership with the March of Dimes — focused on assisting pregnant mothers increase healthy births — Kappa Epsilon Zeta opened her first Stork’s Nest site in 2010.  In a collaborative effort with the March of Dimes Foundation, Gamma Xi Zeta of Westchester, New York, St. Barnabas Hospital and Union Community Health Center, under the leadership of Soror Lillian Pyatt-Castro, (currently serving as the NYS Stork’s Nest Director, 2012), the women of Kappa Epsilon Zeta opened this nest on May 10th, 2010.  Through our Nest the chapter provides robust pre-natal courses, information and resources to under-served and low-income pregnant women in the Bronx.  The Bronx/Westchester Stork’s Nest holds two sessions each year:  once in the Fall and then again each Spring.  With the help of Soror Dionne Durant (of the March of Dimes), Kappa Epsilon Zeta and Gamma Xi Zeta Chapters have hosted over seven baby showers and redemption events; have served nearly 500 Bronx women; have graduated over 150 program participants and have developed a consistent, thriving presence as advocates for healthy pregnancies.  The Bronx/Westchester Stork’s Nest is routinely visited by local politicians who visit to speak to program participants and encourage their participation and the Nest has received several commendations from Bronx officials.
